Domaine Blain Soeur et Frère
One sister and one brother, they both grew up in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet in the heart of the Côte d’Or’s most famous vineyards, and they decided to take over as a family an old vineyard on the hills of Mont Brouilly with one dream – to give a voice to this unique granitic terroir of Beaujolais.
Their vines are on average more than fifty years old and offer wines classified as Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly AOC, uphill on the western side of the ancient volcano. With carefully restricted yields, the vines here express with great accuracy the story of their terroir, and the unique qualities of each specific plot. This naturally gave birth to three different cuvees:
- PIERRE BLEUE Mont Brouilly offers granitic soils, rich in blue stone. This unique granite gives the wine a fresh but strong and savoury character, with terrific ageing potential.
- LES JUMEAUX Half-way up the hill, a vein of pink clay runs across the granite of the twin plots of land. The mix of both soil compositions transforms the wine expression – rounder, more complex and very food-friendly.
- BROUILLY Walking down to the bottom of the hill, we reach the sandy-clay soils of Brouilly AOC where elegant, palatable and charming wines full of fruit, and typical of Beaujolais, can be found.
