Additional Info:

The Juliénas 2021 by Armand Heitz is a graceful interpretation of one of Beaujolais’ most historic crus. Named after Julius Caesar and rooted in over 2,000 years of viticultural tradition, this wine emerges from the volcanic, schist-laced slopes of the Domaine de la Combe Vineuse. Drawing from distinct lieux-dits such as Mont Rouge, Le Tour, En Besset, and La Fargette, this cuvée reveals a refined, terroir-driven expression of Gamay—favoring finesse over force.

Wine Characteristics:

  • Appellation: AOP Juliénas

  • Grape Variety: Gamay

  • Terroirs: Mont Rouge, Le Tour, Le Plat, En Broussaud, La Garenne, La Fargette, En Besset

  • Soil: Siliceous volcanic rock, schist, and scree; soils similar to those found in Côtes de Brouilly and Côtes de Py

  • Surface Area: 6 Ha

  • Average Yield: 40 hl/ha

  • Serving Temperature: 13–15°C

Vinification:

Guided by a philosophy of thoughtful viticulture and minimalist intervention, the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified using 100% whole clusters. Armand Heitz employs a gentle approach—short vatting periods, no punching down, and only light pump-overs—allowing the purity and elegance of the terroir to take center stage. The wine matures for 8 months, achieving a harmonious balance between structure and finesse.

Tasting Notes:

This Juliénas 2021 opens with a delicate and inviting bouquet of wild berries, violets, and hints of spice. On the palate, it displays a surprising refinement, offering silky tannins and bright acidity that frame its red fruit core. Notes of crushed stone and subtle herbal nuances add complexity, while the finish is long, lifted, and quietly powerful. Far from the more muscular profile often associated with this cru, Armand Heitz’s interpretation is marked by elegance, precision, and a deep respect for the land.
