Additional Info:

The Aloxe-Corton Grand Cru 2021 by Jean-Baptiste Boudier is a remarkable expression of Burgundy’s terroir, showcasing the finesse and complexity of one of the region’s most prestigious appellations. Sourced from old vines planted in 1942, this wine embodies the richness and elegance of its unique site, offering both immediate pleasure and exceptional aging potential.

Wine Characteristics:

  • Appellation: AOP Aloxe-Corton Grand Cru
  • Grape Variety: Pinot Noir
  • Terroir: Deep (1.60 meters), very draining, stony, composed of fine brown clay.
  • Planting year: 1942

Vinification:

Manual harvest with grapes transported in crates to preserve their integrity. A double sorting process is performed—both in the vineyard and on a sorting table—to select only the finest fruit. The wine undergoes a 10 to 14-day infusion with a portion of whole-cluster fermentation, adding structure and aromatic complexity. Native yeasts from the terroir drive the fermentation, allowing the wine to express its authentic sense of place. The wine matures in French oak barrels (15% to 25% new oak) for 14 to 20 months, adding depth and texture. No fining is performed, and only a light filtration is applied if necessary to maintain the wine's clarity.

Tasting Notes:

The wine displays a respectable red-purple hue, lighter in color compared to other cuvées, but still vibrant and inviting, hinting at its refined nature. The bouquet is splendidly perfumed and elegant, opening with delicate aromas of red berries (wild strawberry and raspberry), intertwined with subtle floral notes of violet and a touch of rose petal. With aeration, hints of earthy minerality and gentle spices emerge, adding depth and sophistication. On the palate, the wine reveals a dense and generous fruit profile, with flavors of redcurrant, cherry, and cranberry taking center stage. The silky tannins are beautifully integrated, providing a smooth and velvety texture. Despite its lighter color, the wine offers remarkable concentration and freshness, with a graceful balance of acidity and fruit purity.
